Backpackers' AfricaFor those adventurous travellers wishing to experience Africa 'without frills', but still with a high degree of comfort…… 14 Nights Chundukwa River Lodge: Chundukwa-River-Lodge-Zambia 14 nights: from US$4169 Based on TWO persons travelling during low season EMAIL US: Info@island-Safari.com to obtain a quotation for your dates Day 1 On arrival at Livingstone Airport, you will be met by a representative of Chundukwa River Lodge and transferred to the lodge. Situated about 30km upstream from Victoria Falls on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, Chundukwa has created unique tree houses which blend naturally with the Waterberry trees that adorn the riverbanks. Each tree house is complete with a private bathroom and breathtaking views of the Zambezi River, Chundu Island opposite, and the Zambezi National park across the River. The Lodge is in a game area and sightings of hippo, elephant and other game are a common occurrence. Day 2 Time for some fun! Enjoy any TWO of the following activities FREE OF CHARGE: White Water Rafting (Half or Full day), Elephant Back Safari, Full Day Canoeing, Half Day High wire adventure, 15 Minute Helicopter Flight, Jet Boat Safari, Horse Riding Safari, Night Drive, Walking Safari or Lion Encounter. Day 3 After two exhilarating days at Victoria Falls, you will be collected at reception and transferred by car and ferry to Kasane in Botswana (approx. 80min), where you will be met by your pilot who will fly you to Oddballs Camp, a one hour flight. On arrival at the Oddballs airstrip you will be met by your guide, who will be looking after you during your stay at Oddballs. At Oddballs you will be accommodated in a 2mx2m domed tent, set on a wooden platform. After lunch (at Oddballs all your meals, teas and coffees are included in your tour, but you will be required to pay for additional drinks), you will go out with your guide for either a mokoro excursion or a walking safari. Day 4 You will collect all your camping equipment and a hamper of food from the store (all included in your tour) and accompanied by your guide, you will go out on mokoro trail (subject to water levels). Your guide will find a suitable camping spot and assist you to set up camp, build a fire, and prepare your food. From your base camp your guide will take you out on walking safaris - truly the only way to go out on safari, enabling you to be 'at one' with the environment, and obtain stunning views of both the wildlife and birdlife of the Okavango Delta. Your guide will be happy to track and stalk particular animals that you are interested in seeing. Day 5 An early morning wake-up, and after some coffee, an early morning walk in the Moremi Game Reserve, returning after about three hours for a hearty breakfast. During the heat of the day you can relax, and then after lunch another excursion by mokoro into the Moremi Game Reserve. Dining by the light of the campfire under the canopy of the 'African Sky' completes your day. If you are particularly energetic, you can go out on a longer walking safari, taking a picnic breakfast or lunch with you. Day 6 Another early morning safari, then return to Oddballs for lunch, and a rest before going out again for a mokoro excursion. You may also be interested in visiting the nearby village, where your guide will be proud to show you his home and introduce you to his family - a unique experience, especially if this is your first visit to Africa. Day 7 After your four night stay at Oddballs Camp, you will take a light aircraft flight to Maun. From here you will be transferred by road to Planet Baobab on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans in the Kalahari Desert. Here you will spend your first night in a traditional Bakalanga mud hut under a canopy of indigenous trees. Your hut has every comfort, including private hot water shower and flush toilet. Your second night will be spent in a ‘scratch camp’ at Nxai Pan, under the vast desert night sky (dry season only). Day 8 Planet Baobab offers one of the most intriguing views of Africa, totally different to any other African destination. Your safaris will be on four wheel 'quad' motorcycles, taking you deep into the pans where you will be able to visualize life as it existed tens of thousands of years ago. Day 9 After breakfast you will return to Maun Airport in time for your scheduled Air Botswana flight, departing Maun at 15h00 and arriving in Johannesburg at 16h40. You will spend the night in Johannesburg at the Safari Club, which is conveniently situated near the airport. Dinner will be at your own expense tonight, but a delicious breakfast buffet is included in your stay. Day 10 After breakfast you will be shuttled back to Johannesburg Airport (10 minutes) for your flight to Vilanculos in Mozambique (approx. 2 hours). You will be met at Vilanculos Airport and transferred to Casa Rex, an intimate hotel with only 13 rooms. Reminiscent of a gracious era, with its buildings encompassed in lush gardens, Casa Rex overlooks the southern-central section of Vilanculos Bay. Accommodation is charming, decorated in an individual style with an emphasis in the lounge and dining areas on custom-crafted wood furniture and fittings. With bathroom en-suite, all rooms have a cool breeze & offer a striking view of the bay. For maximum comfort, mosquito nets are hung and windows are fitted with shutters against the occasional rain shower. Days 11 - 14 The Bazaruto Archipelago is made up of several tropical islands and includes some awesome reefs which are home to a diverse array of marine life. As a result, there are a host of water sports available in the area including world class deep sea fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling. Sip sundowners on the terrace or refresh yourself in the swimming pool overlooking the harbour – the perfect way to end the day ….or to begin one! Vilanculos’ prime location as the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago provides access to superb beaches, lagoons and coral reefs, making for perfect diving, snorkelling, underwater photography, deep sea fishing, surfing, wind-surfing, yachting & dhow excursions. Day 15 After five nights at Casa Rex, you will be transferred back to Vilanculos Airport in time to catch your return flight to Johannesburg at 13h45, arriving at 16h30.
