Dugong Lodge
Currently closed for a major refurbishment programme - reopening late January 2008 Dugong Lodge is a luxury "Safari style" Lodge situated on the coast of Mozambique within the boundaries of the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary. Dugong Lodge is a half hour boat ride across the clear water bay from Vilanculos, to which there are daily flights from Johannesburg. Although not on an island, the peninsular gives the feeling of island living. The sanctuary covers 30 000 hectares of pristine marine and wildlife territory, a unique 'Beach and Bush' experience in a hidden corner of sub tropical Africa. Dugong lodge has ten luxury frame tented chalets built on raised decks in the shade of Msasa Trees and Jecka grass canopies. Each of the luxuriously appointed tents has an en-suite bathroom, huge feature bath- tub and an outside shower. Guest rooms have two twin beds or one king-size bed and are equipped with a hair-drier, fans and mosquito nets. All tents open up to a private patio.
Facilities include the Bar offering poolside refreshments, the Lounge, equipped with TV monitor and DVD player, the Fresh Water Swimming Pool & Boardwalk Jetty. Activities on offer are World Class Deep Sea Fishing, Scuba diving, snorkeling in a safe calm bay and sunset cruises. Your stay in the tropical Sanctuary will offer you an unbelievable ‘birding’ experience, with over 300 species including the charismatic Mangrove Kingfisher and the Crab Plover. Large flocks of flamingos and pelicans are a sight to behold.
