Lugenda Wilderness Camp

The Camp is set in a remote area, on the eastern bank of the Lugenda River, in a private concession adjacent to the vast Niassa Reserve, in northern Mozambique. The camp is close to the unique Ngalongue Mountains (inselbergs), with the Serra Mecula on the horizon across from the camp.

Accommodation is in 8 luxury tents, all of which are discreetly set under magnificent trees, overlooking the seasonal Lugenda River. Each tent has a veranda, and is set on a platform. The tent is en suite with bath and shower.

The main Camp area is under thatch, and houses the dining room, bar and lounge. Nearby is the swimming pool with deck, complete with sun loungers and umbrellas.

This may be a wilderness camp, but you will not miss out on excellent cuisine. Each morning you are woken with coffee or tea and muffins, upon returning from the early morning activity, enjoy a leisurely breakfast. High tea is served before the afternoon game drive, where you enjoy sundowners, before returning to Camp for dinner – which might be served on the river-bed, in the Boma, or on the pool deck. Lugenda also boasts an excellent selection of wines.

The Camp is in a very special area, still untouched and un-explored. This is a place for photographers, birders and for those who truly enjoy the African bush. Your guide will take you by open vehicle to explore the region – either for morning or evening drives, or for the entire day. The area has excellent game, and there is the chance of seeing elephant, lion, spotted hyena, along with numerous antelope species, and the endemic Niassa wildebeest, Boehm’s Zebra and Johnston’s Impala. With some 370 species of birds in the area, it is also a birders paradise. Niassa is also home to an excellent wild dog population.

If you feel a little more adventurous, you can also enjoy a guided walking safari – which is offered in the early morning, and late afternoon.

The Camp is in a malarial area, so please take precautionary measures.

Lugenda Wilderness Camp is open on a seasonal basis from 01 June to mid December.
