Fun in the Sun Safari

Priced from: US$ 3 690 per person sharing

Day 1
Upon arrival of your flight at OR Tambo (Johannesburg International Airport) an Island-Safari.com representative who will hand your tickets to you and assist you onto a scheduled Air Botswana flight to Maun.

Flight BP212 departing at 10:10 and arrival in Maun at 11:40. Check-in for International flights is two hours prior to departure. Upon arrival of your flight at Maun Airport you will be met by a representative of Planet Baobab and transferred by road to the lodge for check-in. The transfer will take approximately two hours.

Arrive at the Baobab capital of the world - a traditionally styled mud Kalanga and Bushmen grass hut village shaded by giant baobab trees whose average age is 4000 years old! Take a stroll with one of our local Guides through the surrounding bush as he points out local ecology, geology and culture and watch the sunset with a cool Gin and Tonic over a camp fire set deep in the bush. Return to Planet Baobab for a tasty, wholesome dinner.

Day 2
At the crack of dawn the camp staff will have you transported to Ntwetwe in a little over two hours. You can spend the day exploring the pans and the surrounding area. Ntwetwe is the bigger of the two Makgadikgadi Pans, extending as far as the eye can see in all directions – a breathtaking expanse of nothingness.

The peripheries are dotted with the remains of cultures long since departed and the pans are scattered with the salty, petrified skeletons of past wet seasons. Birds, insects, mammals and reptiles have all succumbed to the sapping heat of the pans and their perfectly preserved remains are a strange reminder of the fleeting fertility of the rains. After a delicious lunch, head off on quad bikes into the magical unknown.

Go where no man has ventured before – far across the unexplored wilderness of the salt pans. Enjoy a drink before a barren and beauteous sunset followed by a barbeque dinner cooked to perfection by our ever-talented guides. At the end of an action-packed day snuggle into your bedroll under the phenomenal Makgadikgadi, your very own star- spangled ceiling.

Day 3
You will be transferred back to Maun Airport by a representative of Planet Baobab.

Arrive at Maun Airport where you will be met by your Moremi Air representative and assisted onto a scheduled light aircraft charter flight to Moremi Crossing

Two overnights at Moremi Crossing in a standard twin tent with private en-suite facilities inclusive of all meals, snacks, Tea & Coffees, Local Brand Beverages ( alcoholic & non-alcoholic), Laundry Service • All game viewing activities & Park Fees – Mokoro Excursions, Sunset Cruises, Game Walks, Fishing • Emergency Evacuation Cover (guests still require their own insurance)

Moremi Crossing is a new tented camp, set on a palm-fringed island, which overlooks the Okavango Delta's famed Chief's Island.

Accommodation is in 16 simple, yet comfortable, tents. The Camp has been designed in a fully eco-friendly manner, and used the latest in solar and waste disposal technology. The main building has a large open plan deck (built on different levels) that has a spectacular view over the Boro River and onto Chief's Island. Dining room, bar and lounge are covered by a large thatched roof that hugs the tree line
In addition, there are a number of small private lounge areas, which allow for comfort, privacy and space. From here there is a shaded decked area that leads to the pool. The entire camp is also shaded by magnificent llala palms, ebony, mangosteen, sausage and giant fig trees. Activities are aimed at being personalised, and guiding is of a high level. Half or full-day activities are on offer.

Guests can enjoy a mokoro excursion (traditional dug-out), where you glide along the channels of the delta, with their papyrus lined banks. Mokoro excursions are subject to water levels and are usually only available May - November. Should you wish to do a full day trip, you get to combine the water excursion, with short bush walks, and a delicious picnic lunch. A bush walk is the best way to explore the wilderness, under the guidance and education of your own personal guide. Bush walks can be enjoyed independently of the mokoro excursion. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, there you might enjoy a night or two camping out in the 'bush'. Your mokoro is packed with basic equipment and food, and your guide will find an island to set up camp.

The camp also boasts small motor-boats, which allow for cruises on the Boro River itself - once again water levels permitting. You can enjoy drifting along a lagoon, and watch the sun set.

Day 5
An early morning walking safari and breakfast. Depart on a scheduled light aircraft charter flight to Pom Pom

Two overnights at Pom Pom in a family tent with private en-suite facilities inclusive of all meals, all local brand drinks, teas/coffees, snacks, game-viewing and laundry

The Camp is located on Pom Pom Island in a private concession situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta and on the head waters of the Xudum river system - Pom Pom is a permanent water camp offering water activities throughout the year.

The area lies on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve and offers superb Okavango scenery and a true Okavango wilderness experience. Accommodation consists of nine luxury safari tents in true traditional safari style, all with full en-suite semi open ablution facilities. The main building is attractively designed and constructed of thatch and canvas and comprises lounge, dining, bar and pool areas, as well as a gift shop and the boma area. Activities include game drives, night drives, mokoro trips and walks. Game viewing is of the best offered in the Delta. Guests have the opportunity of seeing all major predators, a variety of big game and plains game, as well as an abundance of bird life.
Guests can choose from game drives, nature walks, fishing and mokoro excursions. Night drives in open 4x4 Land Cruisers are also permitted as the Camp is outside the Moremi Game Reserve. Hippo and Crocodile are found in the deeper lagoons in the area. Birding enthusiasts will enjoy sighting Pel's Fishing Owl, African Fish Eagle, Giant Eagle Owl and White Backed Vultures. Recently taken over by new management, Pom Pom Camp is a Luxury Safari Camp but at budget prices.

Day 7

You will be transferred to the airstrip in time for your scheduled light aircraft charter flight to Kasane Airport where you will be met by a representative of Elephant Valley Lodge and transferred to the lodge for check-in.

Two overnights at Elephant Valley Lodge in a standard twin bedded tent with private en-suite facilities inclusive of all meals and all game-viewing activities

Elephant Valley Lodge is situated within the Kasane Forest Reserve, close to the Botswana border crossings to both Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as only being a short distance from the Town of Kasane and the entrance gate to the Chobe National Park. The Lodge can be found in the Lesoma Valley, and overlooks a waterhole. Kasane Forest Reserve is adjacent to Chobe National Park.

Accommodation is in 20 East African style luxury Safari Tents, with en suite facilities. Each tent is equipped with mini safe and fan.
Activities centre on Chobe River cruises, and game drives in The Chobe National Park. The Lodge has reversed the general order of things, by offering a morning boat cruise on the River (which forms the northern boundary of the National Park), as the river has less 'traffic' in the morning, thus making a cruise more relaxed, and allowing for more time at game sightings. More of the River can also be explored, as there are no worries about hurrying back to shore at sunset.
In the afternoons you can enjoy a game drive in the Chobe National Park which tends to be a little less busy in the afternoon, as many visitors are on a River Cruise. A sun downer can be enjoyed from an excellent vantage point overlooking the River, and the floodplains. Game is also generally more active, making for some excellent sightings.

Elephant Valley Lodge is a perfect alternative to the large 'hotel style' lodges found in Kasane, and offers a much more authentic 'safari style' ambiance.
Tents are large, and comfortably equipped including en-suite bathroom facilities. The Lodge offers a very high standard of cuisine served either in the Dining area or in the Boma - both overlooking the waterhole which attracts numerous elephants, and is floodlit at night.
